Easy Sweet Potato Fries on the Blackstone

Sweet potato fries are one of our favorite sides to have while camping. They’re easy to make, they have no prep work and they taste great on the side of a burger.

For this recipe we used the Trader Joe’s sweet potato fries, but any frozen sweet potato fries (or even regular frozen fries) will work. We’ve used the Alexia brand sweet potato fries many times and they always turn out great as well.

Step 1: Add Frozen Fries to Heated Blackstone

First preheat the Blackstone on low and then turn the heat up to medium.

Add oil to the Blackstone. Then, open up the fries, put them on the griddle and add some more oil on top.

Step 2: Mix them Around

Start mixing the fries around so they all get covered with oil and so that the sides start to brown. You want to do that for about two minutes.

To mix them, you can either use one spatula or you can use two. My preference is just to use one.

Step 3: Cover with a Basting Dome

Once none of the fries are frozen together and they’re all starting to get some color to them, put a basting dome over them. Depending on how you want your fries cooked, leave the dome on for two to four minutes.

I was going for extra crispy this time, so I left the dome on for the full four minutes.

Step 4: Mix then Cover with the Dome Again…And Again!

Mix them around and if they’re sticking feel free to add some more oil and then put the basting dome back on for another two minutes.

After that you’ll do the same thing one more time. So mix it around again and then put the basting dome back on the top for another two minutes.

Step 5: Crisp them Up

The dome helps cook the centers completely so that they’re no longer frozen but the steam inside the dome sometimes makes things a bit soggy.

So at this point they should be cooked and you just want to toss them around a bit without the dome to try and crisp up the edges before you take them off. I like to steal one to taste test it before I take them off the Blackstone.

Step 6: Keep Warm then Serve

Once you decide it’s ready, put it on a plate and put some foil on top of it. That way they’ll stay warm while you finish up cooking the rest of your dinner. For us, that meant bacon burgers and some grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids.

These fries turned out great. They were nice and crispy. If you don’t want them as crispy, then only keep them under the dome a max of two minutes each time. Either way, they taste great served on the side of a burger.
