In 2021 we finally made the upgrade from a tent to a travel trailer. This decision was not made lightly. We spent three years obsessively researching the perfect trailer for our family of four and our dog.
We had a specific list of requirements. We wanted a trailer that was as short as possible (had to be under 24 feet) so we could camp at California State Parks. And we wanted something light because at the time of purchase we had a midsize truck. We wanted it to have solar and be boondock-friendly because we were planning on primarily dry camping. We needed a bunkhouse for the kids. And we also wanted an outside kitchen as we planned to be outside as often as possible.
At the end of our three-year search we decided the Jayco Jay Feather Micro 171BH was the perfect fit for us. And we have been so happy with that decision!
We made the purchase in March 2021 and have since tried to squeeze in as many camping trips as time allows.
This website documents our journey. We share reviews of the campgrounds we visit, tips and information about our Jay Feather Micro, recipes for cooking at camp, and general advice on traveling with young kids and a dog.
