Step 1: Foam up Milk

Let’s start by foaming up some milk. First, shake up the milk. We like to use Oatley Oat Milk. The Barista Edition is incredibly easy to foam up and tastes delicious.

Pour a small amount into a microwaveable cup or a pot to heat on the stove. I just eyeball it. If you prefer to measure it, pour in a quarter cup, then heat it up. I put mine in the microwave for 30 seconds. You can heat it on the stove instead for a few minutes.

Now it’s time to froth the milk. I keep a small battery operated handheld frother in the trailer. This thing works great. Just put it in the cup of milk and then click the button on the top. I alternate between moving it around in circles and then slowly moving it up and down. Keep doing this until the foam has increased in volume enough that it’s towards the top of the cup, but not overflowing.

Step 2: Mix Foam & Alcohol in Cup

Then pour a small amount of foam in the bottom of the coffee cups just enough to easily cover the bottom of the cup. Now, add the alcohol. We add two shots of Bailey’s and one shot of Captain Morgan’s spiced rum. You can do less than this. You could do more than this. Just make sure you keep it in a two to one ratio between Bailey’s and the rum. Next, stir the alcohol with the foam until it’s well combined.

Step 3: Add Coffee

Now it’s time to add coffee. Hopefully you already have some coffee ready for this. If you want to see how we make coffee at camp, we have a different post that explains step-by-step how we make coffee at camp. Grab your coffee and pour it into the cup. Leave yourself just a little bit of space at the top. Then take your spoon and stir the coffee with the alcohol mixture.

Step 4: Top with Foam

Before you finish these off, take a second to froth up the milk a little bit more since it’s been sitting there. When it’s fluffed up to a point that looks good to you, pour the remaining foam on top of the coffee. As long as it’s nice and foamy, you don’t have to worry about it going over the brim of the cup a bit. It should be firm enough that it isn’t going to spill over.

Enjoy

That’s it. Now it’s time to enjoy your camping cup of cheer. This is delicious, warm, and feels like a special treat. Cheers!
