Casini Ranch Campground Review

We went on a family camping trip to Casini Ranch in Duncans Mills, CA. We stayed at the mini group site 24.

The Campsite

Campsite 24 was very large, especially for Casini, but it wasn’t as large as I had expected from the label “mini group campsite”. Either way, parking our 20 foot rig in the space was no problem. It was very unlevel so we took a while to park because we were trying to find a place that didn’t have one side of the trailer off level by 7 or more inches. We ended up parking in a spot where we had to level one side by 5 inches, which was fine, but is one of the most unlevel spots we’ve been in.

Since it was a group site we were camping with another rig. The other rig was a 38 feet fifth wheel and it was trickier to park the fifth wheel in the space but it worked out just fine.

Although we felt the mini group site was incredibly overpriced, we preferred having more space than the standard parking lot spaces that they have for regular trailer sites.

And although we like to have space so the kids could run around, we were happy to find that the neighbors we had were some great people. This was the most fun my kids have ever had with other random kids at camp. They really seemed to make a bond and were very sad when it was time to go. And that really made this trip feel extra special for them.

Many of the sites at the campground have full hook-ups. Our mini group site had a water hook-up but no other hook-ups. There is a dump station available. We did have some cell service through Verizon.

The Activities

This campground does have a lot to do right at camp. There are two different playgrounds which my kids were very excited about. This campground is also right on the Russian River so you can go and play at the river. And the campground is a great place for the kids to ride bikes around.

Right across the street from the campground there are some nice shops to look around. There is also a bakery that has some delicious bread. We like to stop by and get a loaf of the jalapeno cheese sourdough round.

The Dog-Friendly Hiking

We were here for a short weekend and really didn’t explore further than the campground. The dog is welcome to walk around the campground and along the river. We didn’t find any great hiking trails around.

The Beer

There is a bar right across the street from the campground where you could get some beer, but it isn’t a brewery. We just brought beer with us. Lagunitas is a fairly local and tasty brewery and easy to get at the local grocery stores.

The Recap

Casini is overpriced and has very little privacy. Even so, it can be fun with a group and we have made some nice memories here.
