We went on a camping trip to Stillwater Cove Regional Park in Jenner, CA. Stillwater Cove is one of the Sonoma County Regional Park campgrounds. We stayed at site 10.

The Campsite
Our 20 foot trailer fit in our campsite (#10) with no issues. The site itself was nice, it was arguably the best site there for a trailer. The site did back up to highway 1 but it was far enough away that it wasn’t an issue for noise or safety. You can see some cars through the trees but it wasn’t a big deal. The site was on a corner so even though you have neighbors it gives the illusion of seclusion. We had plenty of space and the kids enjoyed getting to play catch and jump around from log to log.
This is a dry campground. There were no hook-ups. There was a dump station for an extra $8 fee. And we had a weak cell signal through Verizon.
The Best Campsites
- Site 10
- We were happy with this site. It felt private and there was a good amount of space.
- Sites 9 & 10
- If we came with a group of two these would be our preferred sites. There is enough space between these two that they do feel private but they could also work for a group. Chances are site 10 would be the primary site where the group would gather.
- Sites 11 & 12
- These sites would work well for a group of two because they share a parking pad. The sites are pretty small though and it would be a challenge to camp here with trailers. They are near the hike and bike sites, but other than that they are secluded.
The Weather
We were here in February and we were pleasantly surprised by the weather. It was cold but still comfortable to hike in. We were prepared with beanies, gloves, and warm jackets so we still spent lots of time outside.
The Activities
By far the best part about this campground are the trails. There are three different trails that all start at the same point. Two of them go through gorgeous areas with ferns, trees, and a creek. And the other one goes to a beach access area. (To go to the beach the trail does require you to cross highway 1 at one point.)
The kids couldn’t get enough of these trails. It didn’t matter which of the three we went on, they loved every minute of it. The entire area felt serene and relaxing.
One of the trails, the Canyon trail, was supposed to go to an old Fort Ross Schoolhouse. That would have been cool to see and we did try to. Since we were there right after lots of rain the creek was much higher than normal and it seemed we would have needed to cross the creek to continue the trail to the schoolhouse. We still enjoyed our surroundings even though we didn’t reach the desired goal.
The Dog-Friendly Hiking
In the last section we talked about the trails and how amazing they are. All of the trails are also dog-friendly! For us this is one of the reasons we absolutely loved camping here. Not only were there beautiful trails but we could actually use them because they don’t require us to leave our dog behind.
The Beer
This campground is off of highway 1. There isn’t very much around. Your best bet is to bring some beer with you. Finding local beer around here would require a bit of a winding drive.
The Recap
Stillwater Cove was a very relaxing place to camp. There were beautiful trails that easily kept both the kids and dog busy. And a beach that you can walk to from camp.
