5 Small Family Travel Trailers for 2027 Under 25 Feet

Finding a travel trailer that works for a family can be challenging, especially if you want to keep the trailer small enough to fit into a wide range of state and national campgrounds.

For 2027, I found five travel trailer floor plans that stood out as particularly interesting options for families. All five are under 25 feet long, and they range from lightweight, simple trailers to larger options that pack a surprising amount of space and features into a compact footprint.

These trailers are listed in order of weight, so you can get a better idea of which floor plans might work with your tow vehicle.

1. Apex Nano 183BH

The first trailer is the Apex Nano 183BH. At 23 feet long and 90 inches wide, this is one of the smaller options on the list.

  • Length: 23 feet
  • Width: 90 inches
  • Dry weight: 3,854 pounds
  • Cargo capacity: 1,046 pounds
  • Maximum weight: 4,900 pounds
  • Fresh water: 52 gallons
  • Gray water: 35 gallons
  • Black water: 35 gallons
  • Axles: Single

One of the things that makes the Apex Nano 183BH interesting is that it is a small, no-slide trailer. That means there’s one less slide mechanism to maintain while still providing a floor plan that works well for a family.

It has a double-bunk setup, but instead of a traditional dinette, it uses a bar system with a pass-through window. This creates a fun setup for entertaining, allowing you to use the space both inside and outside the trailer.

The main bed is available as either a full-time queen bed or a Murphy bed. If you choose the Murphy bed option, it uses a hinged mattress.

Overall, this is an interesting option if you want a lightweight family trailer without a slide.

2. Geo Pro G20SBH

The Geo Pro G20SBH is just over 21 feet long, making it the shortest trailer on this list.

  • Length: 21 feet 2 inches
  • Width: 98 inches
  • Dry weight: 4,078 pounds
  • Cargo capacity: 1,417 pounds
  • Maximum weight: 5,495 pounds
  • Fresh water: 31 gallons
  • Gray water: 27 gallons
  • Black water: 27 gallons
  • Axles: Tandem

Despite being only 21 feet 2 inches long, the G20SBH has dual axles, which is an interesting combination for such a compact trailer.

The floor plan has a dinette Murphy bed system, meaning the dinette converts into the main bed. I think this is a really interesting and unique setup for a small trailer.

There is one drawback, though: you still need to clear off the table before you can convert the dinette into the bed, and there isn’t a lot of counter space available to move things to. But, one very positive aspect to the system is the Murphy bed mattress uses a one-piece mattress rather than a hinged mattress, which is an unusual feature to find in a trailer this small.

The G20SBH also has a slide and a bunk system. The bunks are closer to single bunks than double bunks, but at 32 inches wide, they’re wider than traditional single bunks, which are typically around 24 inches wide. They’re closer to a twin-sized mattress.

The bathroom also has a sink, but it is a fold-down sink, so there isn’t any counter space around it. There is a small cabinet above the sink for storage.

3. Jayco Jay Feather Air 19MBS

The Jayco Jay Feather Air 19MBS is just over 23 feet long and provides a lot of family-friendly features in a relatively compact trailer.

  • Length: 23 feet 1 inch
  • Width: 96 inches
  • Dry weight: 4,325 pounds
  • Cargo capacity: 1,475 pounds
  • Maximum weight: 5,800 pounds
  • Fresh water: 55 gallons
  • Gray water: 38 gallons
  • Black water: 38 gallons
  • Axles: Single

This floor plan has 45-inch double bunks, making it a particularly interesting option for families who need more sleeping space for kids.

It also has a slide with a large U-shaped dinette, giving the interior more living space when the slide is extended.

The main bed is a Murphy bed with a hinged mattress.

Another nice feature is the way the bunks are accessed. The trailer uses a collapsible bunk ladder, making it easier to get into the bunks.

Overall, this is a floor plan that seems well suited to a family looking for double bunks while still keeping the trailer just over 23 feet long.

4. Ember 190MSL

The Ember 190MSL takes a very different approach to family sleeping space.

  • Length: 22 feet 6 inches
  • Width: 95 inches
  • Dry weight: 4,945 pounds
  • Cargo capacity: 985 pounds
  • Maximum weight: 5,930 pounds
  • Fresh water: 55 gallons
  • Gray water: 35 gallons
  • Black water: 35 gallons
  • Suspension: Single / Independent suspension system

The Ember 190MSL is classified as a single-axle trailer, but technically it doesn’t have axles. Instead, it uses an independent suspension system.

This is another no-slide trailer, which means there’s one less thing to maintain.

What makes this floor plan particularly interesting is the Ember Track system. Instead of having a permanent bunk configuration, the space can be customized depending on how you want to use it.

The system can accommodate:

  • A bunk with a desk underneath
  • Two single bunks
  • Two double bunks
  • Additional cargo space

That makes the space much more versatile than a traditional fixed bunk setup.

For 2027, Ember also added a new V-Bar window. Instead of one large cargo door in front of the Ember Track system, the opening is now split into two sections. One section flips down to create a counter, while the other flips up and includes a window.

If you use the space as a double-bunk system, each bunk can have its own window, which is a really nice addition.

Instead of a traditional dinette, the 190MSL has a sofa with an attachable table. The main bed is a Murphy bed with a hinged mattress.

5. Imagine AIM 21MBA

The Imagine AIM 21MBA is the largest of the five trailers, coming in just barely under the 25-foot limit. This is also a new floor plan for 2027.

  • Length: 24 feet 11 inches
  • Width: 96 inches
  • Dry weight: 5,361 pounds
  • Cargo capacity: 1,034 pounds
  • Maximum weight: 6,395 pounds
  • Fresh water: 37 gallons
  • Gray water: 45 gallons
  • Black water: 37 gallons
  • Axles: Tandem

At just 24 feet 11 inches, this floor plan packs a lot of features into a trailer that stays under 25 feet.

The main bed is a Murphy bed, but unlike the other floor plans we’ve looked at, it converts into a north-south bed rather than an east-west bed. It still uses a hinged mattress.

The trailer also offers a choice between a large U-shaped dinette in the slide or a theater dinette.

For families, it also has 47-inch double bunks, giving kids significantly more sleeping space than a narrow single bunk.

If you want a trailer that stays under 25 feet but offers more of the comforts you’d normally expect in a larger trailer, the 21MBA is worth a look.

Two Honorable Mentions

There were two other floor plans I wanted to mention even though they didn’t quite meet the under-25-foot requirement.

Both are just over the cutoff, but they offer some really interesting layouts.

Ember 220MSL

The Ember 220MSL is a new floor plan for 2027 and measures 26 feet 1 inch long.

  • Length: 26 feet 1 inch
  • Width: 96 inches
  • Dry weight: 5,895 pounds
  • Cargo capacity: 1,655 pounds
  • Maximum weight: 7,550 pounds
  • Fresh water: 55 gallons
  • Gray water: 35 gallons
  • Black water: 35 gallons
  • Suspension: Tandem / Independent suspension system

Although it’s considered a tandem or dual-axle trailer, like the Ember 190MSL, it technically doesn’t have axles. Instead, it uses independent suspension on all four wheels.

The 220MSL is also a no-slide trailer, which means less slide maintenance while still offering an interesting amount of usable space.

It uses the same Ember Track system as the 190MSL, although the system is slightly larger at 46 inches wide.

It also gets the V-Bar window setup, with a split cargo opening that includes a window.

One of the coolest features of this floor plan is what Ember calls the Dinesk system. There’s a breakfast bar, but a table is hidden inside the bar. You can pull the table out when you want a dining area where the whole family can sit together.

You lose some walking space when the table is deployed, but it would be especially useful on a rainy day when everyone wants to come inside and play a game of cards.

When you don’t need the table, you still have the bar top for counter space and a place for the kids to eat breakfast.

The 220MSL also has a Murphy bed. Unlike the 190MSL, this one converts into a north-south bed, although it still uses a hinged mattress.

Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S

The Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S is 25 feet 10 inches long, so it’s less than a foot over the 25-foot target.

  • Length: 25 feet 10 inches
  • Width: 96 inches
  • Dry weight: 5,563 pounds
  • Cargo capacity: 2,137 pounds
  • Maximum weight: 7,700 pounds
  • Fresh water: 53 gallons
  • Gray water: 29 gallons
  • Black water: 29 gallons
  • Axles: Tandem

Even though it’s a little longer than the trailers on the main list, the 2509S has a lot to offer.

It has 48-inch double bunks and a slide with a large U-shaped dinette. There’s also an option to replace the U-shaped dinette with a 78-inch hide-a-bed.

The kitchen has an L-shaped layout with a pop-out counter, providing additional workspace.

The main bed is another Murphy bed, but this one converts into a north-south, walk-around bed. Even better, it uses a one-piece mattress rather than a hinged mattress.

I think this creates a really comfortable setup, especially for a family looking for a trailer that can provide more sleeping and living space without getting dramatically longer.

What I Look for in a Family Travel Trailer

Looking through the 2027 floor plans, these are the trailers that stood out to me as options that could work particularly well for families.

However, there’s one issue I still think the RV industry needs to address: better sleeping solutions for older or taller kids.

I put together a short video with some custom travel trailer floor plans that don’t actually exist yet, but that I think could work really well for families. If you’re looking for alternatives to the traditional bunkhouse layout, it’s worth checking out some of these ideas.

Traditional bunk systems can work really well when children are young, but they don’t necessarily provide a good long-term solution as kids get older and taller. A bunk that works perfectly for a small child may become cramped surprisingly quickly.

That’s one reason I find floor plans like the Ember Track system particularly interesting. Having the ability to change how the sleeping space is configured could make the trailer more adaptable as your family changes.

Final Thoughts

There are some really interesting family-friendly travel trailer floor plans coming for 2027.

If keeping the trailer under 25 feet is important to you, the Apex Nano 183BH, Geo Pro G20SBH, Jayco Jay Feather Air 19MBS, Ember 190MSL, and Imagine AIM 21MBA all offer different approaches to fitting a family into a relatively small trailer.

The biggest thing to remember is that there isn’t one perfect floor plan for every family. Your tow vehicle, the ages and sizes of your kids, how you camp, and how important features like bunks, slides, and Murphy beds are will all affect which layout makes the most sense.
